Act number 2013-361 mandated the Office of Prosecution Services to develop and administer a database to maintain a record of all pretrial diversions within the state. The chief purpose of this database is to help ensure that all stake-holders involved in the Alabama criminal justice system have accurate information regarding a defendant's prior admissions into pretrial diversion programs in order to make better informed decisions about future admissions into such programs.
The information maintained within the Pretrial Diversion Records System (PDRS) is considered confidential and is protected by state law. Access to this information is granted by the Office of Prosecution Services only to persons and agencies deemed to have a legitimate criminal justice need or are required by Act 2013-361 to enter pretrial diversion records into the system.
